Christian Lacroix meets Dame Edna Everage in Venice

A theatrical costume designed and created by Liz Welch and Gill Fryers from fabric and Friendly Plastic.  Inspired by two outrageous personalities of fashion and entertainment, the aim was to create a whole outfit complete with accessories that would be theatrical and dramatic, and demonstrate the versatility of Friendly Plastic as an exciting medium to work with.  The costume is light and very wearable, and the colours create immediate impact.  The mask adds an air of drama and mystery.
Pantaloons in turquoise chiffon with decorative calf cuffs of fabric roses and Friendly Plastic beads. A little bag echoing the shape of the bodice and embellished with Ooozed cut out motifs completes the outfit, along with an arm piece of coiled twisted columns set on to a cuff of layered plastic.
Mask  created using my Oooze! Technique with added stitching and feathers.

Headdress created from off cuts made into spaghetti rolls which were coiled and foiled.  Wire, feathers and Ooozed motifs add tot he dramatic effect.
The back of the cloak is decorated with a Lacework panel and a cascade of circular Lacework motifs.
The collar is made from panels of foiled Lacework (colour both sides) which  have been wired to spirals columns of plastic.  This makes it flexible.
The earrings are made from pieces cut out with the Spiral metal cutter, with an Ooozed motif and tassel.
Dame Edna makes an appearance in the form of jewelled specs made from Friendly Plastic.
The Bodice is decorated with a panel of lacework, edged with Piecework, and decorated with tassels.
